A Thanks Giving (based on Ephesians 2:1-10)

This poem is for my Daddy, my Father, Our Father. It is raining, it is cold, it is the day before Thanksgiving . Before all people gather , I want to give Him a time of thanks. And it is that I can offer thanks for which I am most thankful.

No thanks is there to give Lest this dead girl come to life.

Hands rest blue in a body defeated by strife.

For the dead cannot praise Nor unfold arm to raise.

The dead cannot sing Nor whisper a secret thing .

The dead cannot open eyes Nor have within a vision rise.

No thanks is there to give Lest this dead girl come to life.

Rooms here cold . the door sets shut. All alleys old.

And roads riveted with ruts. Lest this dead girl come to life.

BUT GOD! BUT GOD! BUT GOD! BUT GOD!

The room ablaze .

The door burst open.

Alleys lost in the haze as roads let hope in. . .

A dead man came to life Now! Thanks there is to give!

A dead man came to life! Hands bleed red as His body takes my strife!

Now!

Thanks there is to give As this dead girl comes to life!

The living cannot contain or with folded arms remain.

living cannot withhold : flood of song that burst forth bold.

The living cannot buffet their thanks: it flattens the damns and levels the banks.

It pumps in power in a heart afresh.

It screams “I AM NOT DEAD, I AM SPIRIT IN THIS FLESH’

GIVE THANKS ALL THOSE WHO LOOK UPON THE LORD IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING PSALM 27:13
