I remember you friend, in the times before we had to be gods
When we were soft , and free, and friends because i liked you and you liked me
You who wore jeans , boots and butched hair
And I who wore skirts, sandals and pigtails
We were friends before the world was full of gods.
Your brother was “a mean boy” I told my mother one day.
Because he pulled at my hair and made you run away.
It was way back when we were in the “image of god”
We were girls and he was a boy. Before we were gods.
When one day your brother chided you and said you looked like a “boy”
You ran to your room . ” go on crying like a girl” your brother yelled
“How can you call her a boy and say she cries like a girl” , I screamed slugging
He pulled me away by my pig tails and said, “because Im bigger, so there..”
When I found you , your face was wet , red but brave.
“Ill tell him , i m not a boy or a man, I am what I am “you said
That was long ago when we knew we were strong and knew we were in the image of God.
And not gods ourselves.
